Men’s Soccer – 2023

Your Support Matters

The primary goal of the Men’s Soccer program is to provide the best student-athlete experience both on and off the field. We work to create a positive and inclusive culture that focuses on developing the student as an athlete, a scholar and a member of the community. Our aim is that the young men that are part of our program today, will go on to be great leaders tomorrow. Your support will have a direct impact on their success as student-athletes and on the program.

USports Varsity teams at the University of Guelph receive base funding from the Department of Athletics to cover such things as league fees, officiating and travel. To offer enhanced opportunities, we rely on student-athlete fees and fundraising to meet the rest of our program needs. To minimize the financial burden on our student-athletes, Men’s Soccer has set a goal to raise $10,500 annually to offset costs that are essential to the success of our program.

About Men’s Soccer – 2023

The Gryphon Men’s Soccer team has a long history of success. The team won its first ever OUA title in 1990 and went on to win the silver medal at Nationals; still the team’s best finish at Nationals to date. The next OUA title came in 2016 when Guelph defeated York 3-1 in the final and subsequently captured the bronze at the National Championship. The team earned an OUA bronze in 2019 and narrowly missed out on a national appearance. OUA gold was the result of the 2021 season with another win over their rival York, and a semifinal defeat at Nationals in Montreal saw the Gryphons finish 4th in Canada.

Each year, the team’s competitive goal is to qualify for the OUA final four. Ultimately, the program’s aim is to advance to the National Championship and as the top two teams in the OUA advance, the goal each year is to play for the OUA title.
