Your Support Matters
The primary goal of the Men’s Lacrosse program is to provide the best student-athlete experience both on and off the field. We work to create a positive and inclusive culture that focuses on developing the student as an athlete, a scholar and a member of the community. Our aim is that the young men that are part of our program today, will go on to be great leaders tomorrow. Your support will have a direct impact on their success as student-athletes and on the program.
OUA Varsity teams at the University of Guelph receive base funding from the Department of Athletics that covers costs such as league fees, officiating and some travel. We rely on student-athlete fees and fundraising to meet the rest of our program needs. To minimize the financial burden on our student-athletes, Men’s Lacrosse has set a goal to raise $20,000 annually to offset costs that are essential to the success of our program.
Make an Impact
You are so important to the success of the Men’s Lacrosse program! Your donation will be used to:
- Purchase helmets and gloves for incoming players ($6,000),
- Provide post-game team meals while on the road ($1,500),
- Provide access to specific strength and conditioning and a summer training program ($2,000),
- Support travel costs and accommodation at the Baggataway Cup ($5,000),
- Purchase balls, training supplies, game analytics and other necessary equipment ($2,000).
- And, in addition, the team has had to purchase a shot clock ($3,500) and needs to purchase new goal nets (approximately $3,000).
About Men’s Lacrosse – 2023
The Gryphon Men’s Lacrosse team has a long history of success. Established in 1988, the program won its first national championship, the Baggataway Cup, in 1995. Since then, the team has gone on to win 4 more titles, in 2000, 2008, 2013 and 2014. In June 2022, the 1995 team was inducted into the Guelph Gryphon Hall of Fame, honouring the program’s first title. Over 200 Gryphons, coaches and staff are alumni of the program.
Each year, the team’s competitive goal is to win the Baggataway Cup. To qualify for the national championship tournament, we need to finish the regular season in the top three in our division. Each year the road to the Baggataway Cup begins with a strong recruiting class and 2023 is no different. Our goal is to finish first in our division, earning a bye to the semi-finals of the Baggataway Cup, hosted at Trent University on November 10-12, 2023.
