Curling – 2023

Your Support Matters

The primary goal of the Men’s and Women’s Curling program is to provide a successful experience transitioning from competitive youth curling programs from around the country into intercollegiate play, while supporting their growth as students, athletes, and persons within a positive and inclusive culture. OUA Varsity teams at the University of Guelph receive base funding from the Department of Athletics —these cover costs such as sport specific equipment, and some travel. We rely on student-athlete fees and fundraising to meet the rest of our program’s needs. To minimize the financial burden on our student-athletes, the Curling program has set a goal to raise $17,000 annually to offset costs that are essential to the success of our program.

About Curling – 2023

The Gryphon Curling program has a storied history. Established in the 1950’s, the program collected its first OUA Men championship title in the 1960-1961 season and has since added five OUA titles; three men’s and two women’s. In the 1979-1980 season, the program swept both the men’ and women’s titles.

More recently the Women’s program had a successful run during the 2015-2016 season taking home bronze medals at both the OUA and U Sports championships. In 2019-2020 the men’s program wrote their own story by also claiming a bronze medal at the OUA championship, which propelled them to a fourth-place finish at the U Sports national championships.

Our program’s goal for this season is to build a strong culture anchored in the success of hard work, and return back to the national stage with both Men’s and Women’s teams. Staying a perennial playoff team among the other strong intercollegiate programs within Ontario will be the foundation for the future of Gryphon curling.
