Your Support Matters
The primary goal for the figure skating team is to embrace the varsity world further to build a positive environment on and off the ice. The skaters train for eight months to prepare for OUAs in March, representing 14 different events! The variety of these events provides skaters from different backgrounds and levels with a creative and competitive outlet. As we gear up for the competition season, we could use your help to support us through the season.
Make an Impact
We need your support to help us reach our team goals! Your donations will be used for the following:
- Competition entry fees ($2,700)
- Team bonding activities ($300)
- Purchase new team dresses and outfits essential for the competition ($3000)
- External coaches/choreographers to provide feedback and/or team development workshops ($1000)
About Figure Skating
The figure skating team was established in the 1985 with a small team of ten women, and over the years it has grown to a roster of up to twenty-five skaters (both male and female). We have won five OUA Championships: 1991, 1993, 2009, 2010, and 2014. This past season, we had our best placements as a team, reaching the podium over ten times with several skaters bringing home multiple medals! Our goals are to be in the top three placements after early season competition and to win the OUA banner upcoming in March, 2024.
The team also has a long history of running a weekly Learn to Skate program for children aged 5-12. Run in collaboration with the Department of Athletics, the program allows us to get involved with the community and to promote the sport’s growth. The student-athletes volunteer their time coaching the children and proceeds from the program are used to supplement the financial needs of the team. You can find us volunteering at the campus arena on Tuesday afternoons!
