Your Support Matters
The Women’s Field Hockey program’s main goal is to provide the best student-athlete experience on and off the field. We work to create a positive and inclusive culture that focuses on developing the student as an athlete, a scholar, and a member of the community. We want to attract the best and brightest athletes from across the country and help these young women go on to be great leaders tomorrow.
Your support will have a direct impact on their success as student-athletes and the program.
OUA Varsity teams at the University of Guelph receive base funding from the Department of Athletics, which covers costs such as league fees, officiating and some travel. We rely upon student-athlete fees and fundraising to meet the rest of our program’s needs. For example, we travel out of province/country to play exhibition games in preparation for each season. To minimize the financial burden on our student-athletes, Women’s Field Hockey has set a goal to raise $21,000 this year to offset costs that are essential to the success of our program.
Make an Impact
You are so important to the success of the Women’s Field Hockey program! Your donation will be used to:
- Support travel costs and accommodations for our pre-season tour ($10,000).
- Provide access to specific strength and conditioning and a summer training program ($2,500).
- Support travel costs (and sometimes accommodations depending on the location) for league games on the road ($3,000)
- Purchase balls, medical kit supplies, rental of a video camera and livestreaming for family, friends, and alumni ($3,500).
- Recruiting costs for coaches’ out of province travel and accommodations ($2,000).
About Field Hockey
The Gryphon Women’s Field Hockey team has a long history of success. The program won its first ever provincial championship, in 2007. Since then, the team has captured 4 more titles, in 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2019. The Gryphons had an incredible streak of consecutive appearances in the OUA final having advanced to the OUA gold medal game every year from 2007-2021. Over 200 Gryphons and coaches are alumni of the program.
Our team’s competitive goal is to win the OUA title. To qualify for the national championship tournament, we need to win the OUA championship as only two teams earn a berth, the top team from the OUA and the top team from CWUAA. Each year the road to nationals begins with a strong recruiting class and 2024 will be no different. Should we be successful in winning the OUA title, we would have to travel out west and pay for travel, accommodations, and meals.
