The vision of the Gryphon Football Program is to provide our student athletes with the best university football experience in the country. The program is always looking at unique ways to enhance support for our student athletes and continuously drive our pursuit of excellence. We recruit, develop, support, and develop student athletes from coast to coast and beyond so that they may be the best equipped for professional life after they graduate from the University of Guelph. Your support will have a direct impact on the student athlete experience and allow us to continue to attract the best and brightest athletes from across the country.
Varsity teams at the University of Guelph receive funding from the athletics department to cover the costs of equipment, travel, league play, officiating, and apparel. Our Football Program relies on student fees and fundraising to meet the rest of our program’s needs and enhancements. To minimize the financial burden on our student athletes, Gryphon Football has set a goal to raise $40,000 annually to offset costs that are essential to the success of our program.

About Football
The Gryphon Football Program is one of hard work, grit, determination, and has a history of success. The program captured its first National Championship, the Vanier Cup, in 1984. The team has been crowned Yates Cup Champions (OUA) in 1984, 1992, 1996, and 2015, and in recent years has also been Yates Cup finalists in 2007, 2012, 2014, and 2018.
The Gryphon Football Program has a rich history of athletes playing in the professional ranks and has produced 108 CFL draft picks and 1 NFL draft pick (Tavius Robinson). There are currently 10 former Gryphons playing in the CFL, and 4 player personnel professionals including Winnipeg Blue Bombers general manager Kyle Walters and Head Coach Mike O’Shea.
The goals of the football program are to capture the Vanier Cup, to continue to produce professional football players, and to maintain the great University of Guelph tradition of producing graduates to take on professional life. With your support we can reach our goals and beyond.
